Return of The Gotts

Is it 2012 already? Did I go into a Rip Van Winkle-like sleep? Is there no end to this nightmare? Or to John Gotts' ego?

Apparently Gotts got in the top two of the primary, even though he withdrew from the race.
He posted on his web blog on Tuesday:
I'm finding that the Palo Alto lifestyle is the only lifestyle for me. I will be here the rest of my life or will at least have a home here. I have to return to Washington to full-fill the promise I made to my 4th Congressional District but I will ALWAYS have a home here in Silicon Valley.

Dig that!

Sorry, John, I don't dig it at all. You don't HAVE to come back. Really. LD15 will be just fine without you. You obviously want CA to be your home. We're good with that. Especially since the last 'promise' you made was that you were withdrawing from the race to move to sunny California. Do us all a favor and stay where you are.

You can bet your many bottom dollars that your Republican opponent will point out the obvious flaws in your candidacy.

The Yakima Herald's question of the day:

Would you vote for a candidate, regardless of political affiliation, who entered a race, withdrew and then re-entered?

The response should not surprise anyone.
Except for John Gotts.

  1. Evidently more Democrats agree with a return. The fact is more people VOTED for a return than voted for the person backed by the Party, which might just show that the Party leaders are the ones out of touch with the people.

  2. Contrary to the comment above by Anonymous, I am not aware of the Democrat Party backing any candidate for the position. Sounds like it is not the Party leaders being out of touch, but the Anonymous writer spouting out untrue comments.

  3. leave it to the Democratic leaders in Klickitat to shoot their only potential for a win in the 09 race. they're their own worst enemy. who's running things over there anyhow? what a joke.

  4. perhaps the dems leaders in klickitat will just vote republican in which case they're doing more harm than the person they accuse. this is hilarious and will be fun to watch.

  5. Perhaps the pro Gotts voters commenting above aren't doing their homework.

The County Party leadership has and continues to inform themselves. There is a vetting process in place for candidates seeking endorsement. The County Party did not endorse either candidate in this race. One withdrew, one did not answer questions we asked.

  6. A few comments in response to Robert's shallow perspective on reality:

Party lines don't necessarily define the character of a candidate. A person can be dishonest and deceitful regardless of what he chooses as a party label. In the case of John Gotts, Democrats have seen how often the pendulum swings with this corrupt individual. Not really knowing much about the Republican candidate, Taylor, I'm sure he has to have a great deal more integrity than Gotts. I voted for Chandler when Gotts ran against him in 2008; the only Republican I voted for in that election. I really feel that Bruce Chandler is an ethical and honest representative.

Gotts has never been endorsed by the Klickitat Democrats, nor will he ever be. It's very obvious that Robert would ever think outside the Republican box. Unfortunately that is why this country is in such a mess. It's difficult digging out of a hole that has been created by the greed and self-righteousness of non-thinkers.

  7. I guess that means the County Party:
couldn't find anyone that would run in "their" name or
couldn't vet anyone that did want to run or
couldn't get their act together fast enough to vet enough candidate.

Yeah, that sounds like great leadership.

the people in charge in Klickitat County are really organized. 8)

I guess that's why they've won so many seats in Olympia over the years.

  8. It was misleading for this week's White Salmon Enterprise editorial to call Marichalar "the endorsed Democratic candidate." I'm not a party member but this blog makes it clear that Klickitat County Dems did NOT endorse Marichalar. It's not fair to smear the local Democrats just because Dems elsewhere made a poor choice.

Also, I seriously doubt that "Gotts is a Democrat," as the editorial claimed. Last year, while he was running as a Democrat, Gotts told me that he was a "Republican for Obama." It's pretty hard to mistake him for a Democrat when he goes around saying things like that.

  9. Courtney, you obviously are not a Klickitat Democrat, or you would know that the local party has procedures in place for vetting candidates. It is extremely important to do so, now that the 'top two' format in WA allows anyone to call themselves whatever they want. For the record, Marichalar asked for an endorsement. He was asked by the local party to fill our their questionnaire, to help in the vetting process. We did not have sufficient information to endorse him by the time of the election.

Gotts has never asked for an endorsement.
