Gotts Gone

Big news from the Yakima Herald this week should make many Klickitat Dems a little happier. John Gotts is leaving Washington.

Of course, his name will still be on the ballot, which probably thrills Marichalar about as much as Gotts' shenanigans last election season thrilled Klickitat Dems. What a coincidence, this opportunity came up so suddenly, just six days after certification. One has to wonder what kind of person runs for State Leg while casting a big net for opportunities out of state?

More good news, looks like he won't be coming back to Klickitat. He's burned that bridge. Heads up to Yakima County Dems if he's serious about Toppenish...vet your candidates well. The 15th LD has two more years to field true Democratic candidates before 'Gottcha' comes back. Maybe he'll run as something else by then.

YAKIMA, Wash. -- State House candidate John Gotts of White Salmon is ending his campaign and moving to California.

Gotts, an Internet entrepreneur and one of two Democrats who filed to challenge Republican state Rep. David Taylor in the 15th District, said Wednesday he’d found backers for a new Web venture in Palo Alto.

“These opportunities don’t come up very often,” the 42-year-old said.

Gotts’ withdrawal from the race came six days after the state Secretary of State’s office certified this year’s legislative candidates. His name will still appear on the ballot alongside Taylor and Donicio Marichalar of Grandview in the August primary.

Meanwhile, Gotts said he’ll launch www.byjobi.com, a Web site designed to simplify Google’s advanced search features.

Gotts, who lost a state House race last year to state Rep. Bruce Chandler, R-Granger, wished Marichalar well Wednesday and said he expects to be back in 15th District politics.

“My intention, when this (Internet venture) is over in two years, is to return and probably live in the Toppenish area and probably be involved in politics,” he said.

  1. The one thing about John Gotts is that he's serious about starting new business and doesn't seem to let failures stand in his way.

We could use a person like John Gotts and it sounds like the Klickitat County Democratic chair, Julie Larson, is upset John took such a firm stance against all the lawsuits that she's involved with that stop business from coming to our area with jobs.

I will support John Gotts if he comes back to the area, regardless of what party endorses him. We need jobs not lawsuits and good for John to come up with something during a recession, never giving up and now getting backing. It seems like we'll be lucky if he comes back and he will have my vote if he does.

  2. I agree that it would be a good thing if John comes back to the area. I don't know who Marachaler is but I heard Gotts speak last year at a debate in Goldendale and it was shameful how the local Klickitat Dems, whose chair does seee, to be at the root of the lawsuits, went on the attack when John said he intended to stop lawsuits that prevent jobs.

I've been here in the area for twenty years and have seen the good jobs leave the area for the protection of birds or some other reason. Who was looking out for the families?!

We need more people like John Gotts and I just hope he really does come back from California some day. I am going to vote for John Gotts this year to send a message that we want him back.

  3. John talks a good game and unfortunately those who don't dig beneath the surface or who don't pay attention miss the fact that he is not an honest man, blows a lot of smoke, and behaved shamefully towards a commissioner candidate last election. It looks like all he needs to do is say the word jobs and add it to his name and the sheeple go crazy.

I'd be a lot less disgusted with him if he'd run as an independent. But in WA State people can call themselves whatever they want, whether they really have a party affiliation or not.

BTW, The Klickitat Dem chair is not at the root of any lawsuits. Do you know who the Dem Chair is?

  4. For the record, we are just getting this site going for discussion purposes. The signature line hasn't been changed to reflect different contributors yet. As we get it better organized, our bloggers will have their own bylines.

  5. Last July a lot of economic development people from nearby counties showed up in the Goldendale City Hall chambers to hear John Gotts present his ideas for bringing green jobs to the area. I'm fairly certain that most of the people who were there wonder where he disappeared to in the intervening months. First he's here, then he's there, never seems to stay in one place long enough to accomplish anything. I seriously doubt that one job was ever created with all his meanderings. He claims to be a Democrat, but not many Klickitat Democrats would claim him. He was never endorsed as a candidate by any Democratic organization that I know of. If he hung out with the Republicans for awhile, I'm sure they would also come to the conclusion we Democrats did. As far as I'm concerned, you simply cannot trust anything Gotts says. It's like the weather in New England; wait ten minutes and the weather changes. Gotts proved that on environmental issues; one minute he's an environmentalist, the next he's out crossing swords with every one of them.

  6. Really, someone should detail all the claims John has made in the last 10 years, a huge castle estate in Bingen, buying the aluminum plant to make electric cars (60 before the 08 election??), then a business that turned water into fuel. Come on people, he is a scammer, big talker, bs'er. He is not worth any parties time. Let him go.

  7. Considering that the country plunged into a recession and he was working on things like electric cars and hydrogen to lower fuel costs I'd say he got hit by a tsunami that sank a lot of boats.

I wonder if the people working so hard to run jobs out of here worked as hard as Gotts to bring them in if our community would be better or worse.

Say what you want about him, I admire his candor and honesty. He calls it like he sees it and now he's creating new jobs and opportunities for people outside Washington.

I agree that it's a shame he's gone but as bad as we need the jobs and as hard as he works at it and puts out new ideas I just hope he comes back.

  8. I believe he made millions of dollars selling virus protection online and now he has backing in Silicon Valley. I believe the town of Bingen ran over his idea and the Gorge Commission stopped the anexation into White Salmon.

Now he's in California building his next big thing and we're all here complaining he left without doing enough for us.

It seems like a lot of crying in a beer to me.

I tried his new site http://www.byjobi.com and it's really pretty neat. I'm guessing this will be his next big success. It seems that as everyone was trying to figure out how to not lose their minimum wage jobs John went out and got funding in silicon valley and started another business.

I wish him luck and think everyone should just leave this alone and see what can be done to win in November with the candidate we're now stuck with, regardless of his chances of winning against Taylor who is not getting involed in nonsense and name calling.

  9. I agree.

As we sit here arguing about John not doing more for our struggling communities I cannot think of another person that tried harder or brought the issues to the front like John was willing to do. He didn't profit from any of his work and now people are p.o.'d that he didn't succeed in OUR backyard as he did in California.

Meanwhile what are his opponents doing to make things better? Or is the reason for this blog to call names and spread gossip?

And we wonder why we Dems can't win an election... disgusting management is what it comes down to. Complaining instead of taking action. It's no wonder John moved and I'm still voting for him to show support for his efforts.

  10. John Gotts was the best chance we Dems had this year to win and instead the party backed an unknown in the race. Now John's gone and their guy has a chance to win but they use this opportunity to throw stones. I just don't get it. It's almost like our local democratic leaders want to lose. The commissioner candidate lost by a huge margin so the people seemed to agree with him that she was the wrong choice. I just went to the www.johngotts.com website and it looks like he really did get backing and has moved to California to try to grow a company. I haven't heard from either remaining candidate what they plan to work on to make things better in the 15th LD. At least John tried. Nothing like kicking somebody for trying though, eh? It makes us feel good to kick people that tried to help us right? i don't get this blog and I don't get the people who wrote this article. Who wrote this article anyhow? Was there nothing good to say about his Dem opponent or is his campaign that he won't do anything to upset anyone with things like opinions? I just don't get it.

  12. considering how many people voted for john last year I wonder how it benefits the party to put down a person most dems voted for and risk upsetting people who liked him. this sounds like a great way to get people to vote republican... ouch

  13. This Republican in Democrat clothing (Gotts) was the reason I voted for the incumbent in the last election, and I know I was not alone among strong D's in the county. Obviously the Governor thought the incumbent was OK, too, since she 'promoted' him. If you look at his numbers, Gotts got about what you'd expect from the ratio of Rs to Ds. About the same as Tao Berman got. So it was an autopilot vote. We need to take our votes seriously, and do our homework. The State of WA lets our candidates call themselves whatever they want. We need to find real solid D's to run. No easy task in this district. It might take years, but it can be done.

  14. Gotts took no campaign cash from anyone, he showed up to debates and he called it like he saw it. At this point I have no idea who the other guy running is, what he supports or why he should get my vote. By Fran's logic if the last incumbant was good enough for the governor then his replacement must be good enough for all of us. In that case we should all vote for Taylor.

The Economist last month talked about how the governor votes for the best candidate, not by party and the WA AG said he votes for dems when they are the best choice.

Does anyone really care about party or is the party system a way to keep us all from working together to solve problems. Red vs. Blue sounds like bloods and crips. I think it's time we got rid of the party system entirely and just vote for the best person.

In that case Taylor gets the win now that Gotts is out.

  15. i'm not sure i get fran's math. if gotts po'd everyone but burman got less votes where did gotts pick up the extras? i think the dems should walk away from this fight and try to figure out how to back the remaining dem in the race. my guess is there are a lot of us out here that liked what gotts said and stood for or maybe we just liked it that someone was trying hard to help bring attention to issues like jobs not paying enough to raise a family with all the lumber jobs long gone. gotts was a fighter for jobs when everyone else is dead silent INCLUDING HIS OPPONENTS who aren't saying spit about jobs or even trying to get people thinking aboug good jobs. whoever decided to pick a fight here should realize they are now upsetting all of us that did vote for him and again that was more than burman got so bottom line gotts has people who wanted him in office. this blog should end before you completely po your base and we all go vote republican to prove a point.

  16. Amen to that Brian. It seems the point of this blog is that Marichalar is going to have a tough time beating Gotts and Gotts isn't running. Is the Gotts name so powerful that he can beat Marichalar without being here, going to debates and campaigning? This blog is bunk and doesn't give Marichalar much credit. i don't think I'm going to vote for anyone this year and I read enough of this blog to know I won't be back to read any more.

  17. I would like to thank those who put this blog together. We have long time been needing an outlet to discuss issues, impressions of candidates and some way to keep each other up on issues. It surprising how worked up some folks get when someone like Gotts is criticized. Did you ever notice the gleam in his eyes when he gets going in a conflict... he loves it and he probably loves reading this blog....

  18. Yes, he probably loves reading this blog and responding to it... hi john

  19. John Gotts STOLE the source code to the supposed Internet venture he's talking about. He is now pawning off this idea fraudulently as his own. The comments that John Gotts is a dishonest man are very true. I know from experience because he stole from me too. There is an ongoing cyber crimes investigation at the moment.

Maybe he's dodging the bullet before the news comes out to the public?

NO matter, the people of Klickitat, Washington are lucky to get rid of John Gotts, an immoral, unethical and dishonest individual. (although with that set of personality skills it does sound like he's well suited for politics.)

On the other hand I feel sorry for the people of California who will now have to endure his long winded fables about all the things he invented but someone else did. John Gotts' bio is a long list of failures and i suspect you will unfortunately continue to hear crazy things from this delusional crackpot.
